چکیده

Exercise training in patients with cardiovascular disease increases exercise capacity,1–3 reduces cardiac ischemia,1,2 delays the onset of or eliminates angina pectoris,4,5 and improves endothelial function.6 Meta-analyses of exercisebased, cardiac rehabilitation studies have suggested that exercise training reduces cardiac mortality in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients.7–10 A recent randomized, controlled comparison of exercise training and angioplasty in selected patients with angina documented fewer cardiac events in the exercise subjects over the year of follow-up.2 Despite these benefits, exercise training is rarely prescribed for cardiac patients, as evidenced by the fact that only 20%11,12 of qualified patients are referred to formal cardiac rehabilitation programs. Referral rates are even lower among women and older patients.13 The reasons for this underutilization are not defined but probably include health professionals’ underestimation of the benefits of exercise, a lack of training in exercise therapeutics among many healthcare providers, poor financial reimbursement, the absence of reimbursed advocates for exercise therapy,13 and the absence of a sufficiently large randomized clinical trial documenting a reduction in cardiac events. This review discusses the benefits of exercise training for patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Myocardial perfusion scan accuracy in detection of coronary artery disease - Comparison with exercise stress test [Persian]

Introduction: In patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) noninvasive evaluation for detection of ischemia is important to avoid invasive interventions like angiography. Exercise stress test is conventionally the first study used in evaluation of CAD. Considering the noninvasive nature of the myocardial perfusion scan, we decided to compare its accuracy with stress test. Methods: Patie...

The Relation between beliefs about medicines and treatment adherence among patient with Coronary artry disease

Objective: Adherence to drug treatment in patients with coronary artery disease is very important because of the need for long-term use of drugs and the consequences of non-adherence. Several factors may play a role in drug adherence. In this study, the effect of drug therapy-related beliefs on adherence to drug therapy in patients with coronary artery disease was investigated. Material and Met...

Effects of Exercise Training and Consumption of Fenugreek Seed Extract on Expression of Oxidised LDL and ROS-related Genes in Patients with Coronary Artery Occlusion

Background and objectives: Sedentary life style and high-fat diet are one of the key causes of coronary artery disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate effects of periodic exercise and consumption of fenugreek seed extract on the expression of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) genes in patients with coronary artery occlusion. Methods: The present ...

The Effect of Cardiac Rehabilitation on Left Ventricular Remodeling in Men and Women Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

Objective: Left ventricular (LV) remodeling is associated with increased morbidity and mortality therefore, interventions that halt or reverse ventricular remodeling are expected to prevent these clinical outcomes. The aim of the study was to assess the effects of cardiac rehabilitation program on cardiac remodeling process in patients with coronary artery disease and then compare the results b...

Effect of one Bout Continuous Versus Intermittent Aerobic Exercise on Plasma Levels of Intercellular Adhesion Molecules 1 and Vascular Cell Adhesion Molecules 1 in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease

Introduction: Adhesion molecules play an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and the type of training may affect the response to these indicators. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of a continuous versus interval aerobic training session on plasma levels of intercellular adhesion molecules 1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecules ...
